Penfro is the Welsh word for Pembroke

Gardens

The house and gardens at Penfro are extensive and much larger than would appear
to be the case from the front of the house and incorporate part of the garden area of the buildings each side.
The house and gardens cover an area of approximately one acre.
If you like gardening, please feel free to do any weeding!

garden3
There is a Slate Terrace which is on a level half way between the garden and ground floor levels.
This is on top of what were the old cellars and
gives wonderful views over most of the gardens.
There are old steps down to the kitchen garden.

overview
This view shows an overview of parts of the extensive gardens from the slate terrace.
We try not to use poisons in the garden rather organic solutions.

gardenterrace
Another lovely terrace on two levels is located next to the kitchen. Here you will find fresh figs
from September onwards, a small pond with a wall fountain.
This area has a ruined stables on one side.

veggarden
The kitchen garden provides fresh vegetables for the household and also has some flower beds and a pathway down to the main garden.

ruin
We even have our very own ruin - strangely, the most photographed area at Penfro! This was once the stables and accommodation for the stableboys.

tree
Down a few steps to the main garden where a marvellous weeping ash tree dominates.
You will find delicious raspberries growing here late in the summer and tomatoes and cucumbers in the greenhouse.
Hidden under the weeping ash are hammock seats where you can hide away from the world.

wintertree
The gardens are beautiful, even in winter. The weeping ash is
a massive living sculpture when without its leaves.

Down yet more steps is the new orchard. pear, plum, apricot, eating and cooking apple trees
should provide the house with wonderful home grown fruit in the coming years.
Rows of blackcurents, red currents, goosbeberries and blueberries are also newly planted here.
