Penfro Access
Statement
Approach
Penfro is situated on the main
road that passes through Pembroke town centre.
There is signage
available at the front of the property.

Parking
There is space available for parking outside
the main entrance on
a lay by area, off the side of the road.
There is also a small car park directly opposite Penfro
on the other
side of the road.
Parking is free.
Unfortunately Penfro has no
influence over the use of
these parking facilities.
Main
Entrance
From the pavement, there are 4 flagstone steps up to the
main entrance door,they measure 180mm high, 220mm high,
170mm high
and 160mm high consecutively.
There is no handrail and nosings are not
highlighted.
The main entrance has a clear opening width of 990mm and
no threshold.
There is a bell for alerting assistance at the front
door set at 1340mm high.
There is a temporary ramp available for use,
however, it is very steep.
Hallway and stairs
The
hallway is well lit and manoeuvrability is good.
Flooring is slip
resistant and level throughout.
There is seating and a range of desks
available in this area.
To reach the dining room and terrace there
are 21 steps.
There are 11 steps down to the terrace and a further 10
steps
down to the kitchen and dining area.
There is no lift
available.
Steps measure 130mm-140mm high, 310mm deep and 750mm
wide.
There is a wooden handrail situated on the right hand side
(descending).
The stairs consist of carpet and nosings are not
highlighted.
Lighting is provided over the
stairs.
Terrace
The door out to the terrace from the
landing has a clear opening
of 750mm wide (inward opening door).
There is a threshold of approximately 60mm over the door.
The terrace
consists of a level and even slabs.
There is seating available
including chairs with firm back support
and arms and tables with legs
positioned at the corners.
Outside lighting is available.
There
are approximately 18 steps leading down from the terrace to the
rest
of the garden. The steps are inconsistent and very uneven.
There is no
handrail and nosings are not highlighted.
Kitchen/dining
room
Note: for anyone who is unable to access the stairs
down to the dining room,
breakfast can be served in rooms or on the
terrace.
This service is also offered to people who are
able to use
the stairs; however in that instance
there would be a small
charge.
There is a clear entry way of 1130mm wide into the
kitchen/dining room.
Flooring is consists of flagstones and is level
throughout.
Manoeuvrability is fair.
Lighting is adequate and
colour contrasting is good.
The table style provides room for up
close seating without leg obstruction.
Chairs with firm back support
and arms are available.
Table service is provided.
There is
also access to a patio area from the kitchen.
The doorway has a clear
opening width of 960mm wide;
there is a step of 90mm high and a
threshold of 30mm high.
The patio area is level and even with a slab
surface.
Stairs to bedrooms
To reach the first floor
bedrooms there are 11 steps, then a right turn,
2 steps, then another
right turn and a further 11 steps.
There is no lift available.
Steps measure 130-140mm high, 320mm deep and 1420mm wide.
There is a
wooden handrail situated on the right hand side (ascending).
The
stairs consist of wood and carpet, nosings are not highlighted.
Lighting is provided over the stairs.
Pembroke room (double room
with en-suite)
The doorway has a clear opening of 880mm
wide.
The handle is a knob style handle with lock and key.
They
contrast well and are set at 1200mm high.
Flooring consists of carpet
and is level throughout.
Colour contrasting in the room is fair.
Lighting is adequate with additional bedside lamps provided.
Light
switches are approximately 1500mm high.
Manoeuvrability in this room
is fair.
The bed is approximately 640mm high.
Storage is
available at a range of heights.
Furniture handles are not ideal in
terms of their colour
contrasting and style for gripping.
There
is a cordless kettle and tea/coffee making facilities available in this
room.
A chair with firm back support and arms is
available.
Pembroke room en-suite
Transition into the
bathroom is level from the bedroom.
The doorway has a clear inward
opening of 760mm wide.
The handle is a knob with a lock and key, with an automatic door closer on the main bedroom door.
Flooring consists of carpet.
There is a good contrast between the
bathroom suite and walls.
Lighting is adequate.
There are bath
facilities with a hand held shower head available.
There is a step up
to the bath from the rest of the bathroom,
the step is 200mm high.
The step into the bath (bath height) is 460mm high.
The bath taps are
lever action.
There are no grab rails in this bathroom.
The
toilet seat is situated at approximately 400mm high and the
flush is a
pull cord with large toggle.
The toilet roll and a bin are within
reach of the toilet.
The sink is a basin with side legs at a height
of 860mm
and has lever action taps.
Burgundy room (double
room with separate WC)
The Burgundy room has a bath and sink within
the bedroom
and a separate private toilet across the landing.
The
doorway has a clear opening of 940mm wide.
The handle is a
contrasting knob style handle with lock and key.
Flooring consists of
carpet and is level throughout.
Colour contrasting in the room is
fair.
Lighting is adequate with additional bedside lamps
provided.
Light switches are approximately 1400mm high and contrast
well to the walls.
Manoeuvrability in this room is fair.
The bed
is approximately 650mm high.
Storage is available at a range of
heights.

There is a good contrast between the bathroom suite and

roll is within reach of the toilet.
There are no grabrails
available.
Morning room
The morning room is a twin room
with a sink.
This room may be classed as the least accessible for
mobility impaired
people due to the fact that the private bathroom for
this
room is situated up a flight of 22 steps.
The stairs measure
850mm wide, 300mm deep and 140mm-170mm high.
There is a handrail on
the left hand side (ascending).
